Founding Attorney Gerard Virga and Executive Director/Attorney David Lohr will travel to the Port Charlotte area later this month to attend The Florida Bar's Family Law Section's Fall Meetings and Leadership Retreat. The event runs from August 26 through August 30, 2026, at the Sunseeker Resort in Charlotte Harbor, Florida, and brings together family law attorneys from across the state for committee business, section governance, and leadership development.
Gerard and David both serve on Family Law Section committees that shape the rules, forms, and legislation governing family law cases in Florida, and this retreat gives them dedicated time to move that committee work forward alongside colleagues from around the state.
What the Fall Meetings and Leadership Retreat Cover
The Family Law Section organizes the week around four main components:
- Wednesday: A welcome reception for section members and leadership
- Thursday: Fall committee meetings, where section committees conduct ongoing business
- Friday: Leadership retreat sessions focused on section governance and initiatives
- Saturday: Additional leadership retreat sessions and an Executive Council meeting
Family Law Section members attend this event each year to stay current on rule changes, legislative developments, and continuing legal education requirements specific to Florida family law.
Leadership Within the Family Law Section
Gerard has long been involved in the Family Law Section's committee work, contributing to the rules, forms, and legislation that govern family law cases in Florida, and David has recently joined that work as well. Gerard, for example, currently serves on nine Family Law Section committees, each with a term running through June 30, 2027:
