Walking in Their Shoes: Virga Law Firm Joins Lauren's Kids Walks in Milton and Panama City

Walking in Their Shoes
|

At The Virga Law Firm, P.A., community stewardship is a core value that shapes how we show up for the families and neighborhoods we serve. As a family law practice, we see firsthand how deeply children are affected by what happens in their homes and communities. That's why we are proud to stand alongside Lauren's Kids in the fight to protect children from sexual abuse and help survivors heal.

This year, two of our offices laced up their shoes and hit the pavement for the 2026 Walk in My Shoes events organized by the Lauren’s Kids foundation. Our Pensacola team walked in Milton on April 23rd, and our Panama City Beach team joined the Panama City walk on April 25th.

Why We Walk

Lauren's Kids is a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded to prevent child sexual abuse and help survivors heal through awareness, education, and guidance. Each April, recognized as both National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Lauren's Kids organizes the Walk in My Shoes event, which is a 1,500-mile trek across the state of Florida, beginning at the Southernmost Point in Key West and ending in Tallahassee.

The statistics behind this mission are heartbreaking, but they are exactly why we walk:

  • 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will experience sexual abuse before graduating high school.
  • There are 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse living in the U.S. today.
  • Child sexual abuse happens in every zip code in the United States.
  • 75% of child victims don't disclose their abuse within a year, and many never tell at all.
  • 95% of child sexual abuse is preventable through education and awareness.

To know that nearly all incidents of child sexual abuse would have been preventable with better awareness and education is a difficult truth to hear. But it's one worth walking for.

Pensacola Walks in Milton

On Thursday, April 23rd, our Pensacola office joined hundreds of walkers at Santa Rosa Kids House in Milton. The morning was filled with purpose, survivors, advocates, families, first responders, and community partners coming together to send a clear message: our children matter, and we will not stay silent.

Panama City Beach Walks in Panama City

Two days later, on Saturday, April 25th, our Panama City Beach team showed up early at the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center in Panama City for the local Walk in My Shoes event. It was a beautiful Saturday morning made even brighter by the energy of our community coming together to support a cause that reaches so many.

We Believe in Stewardship in Action

Community stewardship is one of the foundational values at The Virga Law Firm, P.A., and we believe that being a trusted family law practice means more than what happens inside our four offices in Panama City, Panama City Beach, Pensacola, and Fort Walton Beach. It means showing up for the children and families in our communities, even when it doesn't directly involve a case file or a courtroom.

We are profoundly grateful to Lauren's Kids for the work they do every single day to protect children, equip parents and educators, and walk alongside survivors on their path to healing. To our team members who walked in Milton and Panama City, thank you for representing our firm with such heart.

Every step counts. Every voice matters. And every child deserves to feel safe.
