The Virga Law Firm, P.A. Founding Attorney Gerard Virga was interviewed by Authority Magazine for an in-depth feature on what it takes to build and lead a thriving law practice. The interview, part of the publication's ongoing series on business leadership, asked Mr. Virga to reflect on his path from law school to founding a multi-office family law firm, and what he's learned running the business side of a growing practice.
In the interview, Mr. Virga talked about the personal experience that led him to family law, including his own divorce years ago, which gave him a firsthand understanding of what clients go through during one of the hardest transitions in their lives. He also discussed the lessons he carried from Hurricane Michael when his original office was destroyed, and how he balances practicing law with running a business. Asked what has been most instrumental to his success, he pointed to three traits: "commitment, passion, and dedication."
“Our team of legal professionals is dedicated to more than just legal representation — we’re committed to guiding families through transformative moments with dignity and care. Whether it’s divorce, child custody, alimony, or complex property divisions, we approach each case as a unique human journey, not just a legal matter.”
Mr. Virga also shared his list of five things every attorney needs to build a thriving practice, from truly listening to clients to fostering a strong, values-driven team culture. He discussed our firm’s core values, commitment to continued education, use of modern legal tools, and dedication to community engagement. Several of the points echo what has guided the growth of The Virga Law Firm, P.A. itself, from a single office into a firm with locations across Panama City, Fort Walton, Pensacola, Orlando, Panama City Beach, and Navarre. As he notes:
“These traits aren’t just professional attributes — they’re a promise to my clients. I’m committed to being more than just their attorney. I’m their advocate, their support system, and their partner in navigating some of life’s most challenging transitions. My promise is simple: I will work harder, dig deeper, and care more intensely than anyone else to help your family move forward.”
Beyond the nuts and bolts of running a business, Mr. Virga was also able to discuss The Florida Family Law Attorney Podcast, which he hosts, and how the show provides a way explore “family law from every possible angle.” Through conversations with attorneys, mental health professionals, investigators, coaches, and other professionals, the podcast gives families and practitioners a broader view of the issues that often arise during divorce and other family law matters.
