Remembering Hurricane Michael, Seven Years Later

Remembering Hurricane Michael, Seven Years Later
|

Seven years ago today, Hurricane Michael made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane—one of the most powerful storms ever to strike the continental United States. For those of us in Northwest Florida, that day is etched into our memories. We watched as our beloved communities were battered by unimaginable winds, homes and businesses were destroyed, and lives were changed forever.

At The Virga Law Firm, P.A., we experienced that devastation firsthand. Our Panama City office was destroyed, but even in the face of immense loss, what we remember most vividly isn’t the storm itself. It’s the strength of our community in the days and weeks that followed.

Neighbors helped neighbors. Volunteers showed up with diapers, food, and chainsaws. Strangers became family as we all rolled up our sleeves to clear debris, rebuild homes, and offer comfort. Before we even began rebuilding our own walls, we focused on what mattered most: supporting the people around us. Hurricane Michael tested us, but it also revealed the unbreakable spirit of Northwest Florida.

We are 850Strong. We are Northwest Florida Strong. We are community.

Our Commitment to Florida Families

As a family law firm deeply rooted in Florida, we know that storms come in many forms. Some are physical, like Hurricane Michael, while others are personal—divorces, custody disputes, and other family law matters that can upend lives in different but equally profound ways. In both situations, support and strength make all the difference.

For over 100 years combined, our attorneys have helped families navigate life’s most difficult moments. Just as our community came together after Hurricane Michael, we stand beside our clients during their personal storms to provide guidance, stability, and trusted advocacy to help them rebuild and move forward.

Hurricane Michael changed our landscape, but it didn’t break us. Today, as we reflect on the anniversary of that day, we honor the resilience of our community and the way we came together to heal. We’re proud to be part of this strong, compassionate region and we remain committed to supporting Florida families through every challenge, big or small.
